Many volunteer organizations exist throughout the country. They respond to disasters and emergencies that overwhelm organizations and first responders. Guidance and training are needed to integrate the volunteer organizations into the operational emergency plans to maximize their overall contribution.
Organization of all sizes may quickly become overwhelmed during a disaster. Volunteers can be a valuable resource. However, it is not the time during a disaster or emergency to determine the qualifications, provide training, and obtain necessary security checks to enlist or utilize assisting volunteers.
We develop guidance to address an organization’s challenges, recognizing variations in size, levels of operations, security requirements and levels of available resources. We assist management in initiating a volunteer program while keeping it flexible and user friendly. Management determines the level of training and participation from the volunteers. They also determine which activities and events fit their operational needs which may include informational tour guides to highly trained responders.
